I have taught in Higher Education for over 20 years and I have worked with undergraduates and postgraduates including supervising PhD candidates.  My academic background was in history which I studied as an undergraduate at UEA before taking a Masters in Regional and Local history at the University of Essex.  My other great interest is in learning and teaching and in particular assessment and feedback on assessment which formed the basis of my doctorate. I have published my work in national and international journals as well as presenting my research at national and international conferences and I am keen to continue to build on my research profile. For the last 10 years I have been involved in developing the teaching skills of academic staff and I am interested in exploring the ways in which teaching courses have impacted on the development of new staff.  In terms of my own development I recently became a Senior Fellow of the HEA and I am an external examiner at two other UK universities which gives me a great insight into practice across the wider HE sector.  I joined UEA in January 2015 and it really feels like coming home although a lot has changed since I left in 1987.
