Staff parking at the university Staff parking at the university

Members of staff may apply for a parking permit to be eligible for reduced parking charges and to use staff car parks. Once registered with the University's car parking system, all permit holders are required to display their permit on their dashboard at all times when parked across campus. Any member of staff who is not a permit holder must pay visitor parking fees at all times.

Demand for car parking at the University often outweighs supply: please explore alternative travel options before applying for a permit.

Motorcycles are allowed to park free of charge, but must not be parked in vehicle parking bays.

Currently a 50% discount applies to stays of less than four hours.  Going forward the University is exploring as a priority the option to charge by the hour, with the full day capped at the equivalent of 7 hours.  This option would only be available in barrier controlled car parks and is dependent on the use of an improved technical system which is under development.

Swipe card access

Once a permit is issued your campus card will be programmed to provide swipe card access to barriered car parks. Remember to use your campus card on entry and exit (even if barriers are open) for the correct amount to be debited. The parking fee will be automatically debited from salary or bank account via direct debit.

Additional Parking For Permit Holders

The ‘Park and Stride’ or Triangle car park is approximately a 15 minute walk from the center of the main campus (approximately 0.8 miles) and 10 minutes from the hospital and Edith Cavell building. The map to the right displays the walk from the Triangle site to Chancellors drive through the Colney playing fields.

Access to the car park is available via permit holder swipe card access only

The car park is charged at a reduced rate as an incentive to park, at £1 for a full day and 50p for less than four hours. Users will need to swipe into the site using their campus card, and then *purchase a ticket at the pay and display machine or from 15th May make  payment  online, over the phone or via your mobile. The service will enable drivers to pay for a day on arrival or book and pay for a whole week or longer in advance.

Please note that your valid UEA vehicle permit must be displayed alongside your pay & display ticket / ticket bought through the online Parkonomy system.

*This system is necessary as the charges for this car park are not in line with current swipe card charges in other car parks.

There are 300 spaces available at the site. Occasionally these will be shared with the John Innes Centre conference team.
