Simon moved to UEA in 2011. He provides tutorials tailored to the needs of students with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and attention deficit. He also provides initial screenings for students who suspect they may have such a difficulty.
His tuition uses scaffolding and multisensory techniques to build confidence and encourage independence. He has a particular interest in providing tuition for developing memory skills both for exams and for enhancing academic learning, and also strategies for writing critically and reflectively using, for example, colour coding of key signpost words.
Before moving to UEA Simon was a specific learning difficulties tutor at Coventry University. Simon took a degree in Physics at Newcastle and a PhD in Theoretical Chemistry at Manchester. He has more recently completed a Certificate in Education at Coventry, the OCR Level 7 Diploma in Assessing and Teaching Students with Specific Learning Difficulties at Northampton University. He has completed UKAAN training in the diagnosis and assessment of adults with ADHD.
