Phil works as a Learning Enhancement Tutor for Mathematics and Statistics, with a particular focus on Statistics. He has a BSc and a PGCE in Mathematics from the University of York. Between 1996 and 2017, Phil taught courses in Functional Skills Mathematics, GCSE Mathematics, A-Level Mathematics/Further Mathematics, and BTEC in Engineering at schools and sixth forms in Suffolk before starting work in tertiary education in 2017.
His university work between 2017 and 2019 involved supporting mathematics in science and social science degree programmes, as well as delivering courses on numeracy to nurses, mathematics to scientists and SPSS and Excel training to social scientists. He joined the University of East Anglia in October 2019 where he delivers tutorials, workshops and helpdesks to support the delivery of Mathematics and Statistics to non-mathematicians.
