Jonnie has worked as a Specific Learning Difficulties Adviser since September 2019. Jonnie’s role involves guiding students through the SpLD assessment process, liaising with Educational Psychologists, working closely with the SpLD tutors and working to ensure all students with SpLDs receive the required assessment adjustments. Jonnie enjoys the busy nature of the role and particularly enjoys the continuous interaction with students and staff.
Before Jonnie became a SpLD Adviser, he was a Course Leader in a Further Education college, combining teaching responsibilities with leading and developing a transitional programme for students with Autistic Spectrum Disorders. Jonnie was recognised for ‘inspirational practice’ by the Autism Education Trust in 2017. Jonnie’s teaching role focussed predominately around delivering Functional Skills English, Sport Science and Media. Jonnie also organised and attended residential trips for students with challenging behaviours.
Jonnie has a distinction class Masters degree in Sport and Exercise Science and has a particular interest in the participation levels of physical activity in individuals on the Autistic Spectrum and how sport can be used to help overcome social and communicative barriers.
