Join the Conversation

The Conversation Club is a weekly event open to all international students that would like to practice their English language skills and meet others in a friendly and sociable environment. Run by students, for students, and you can expect a warm welcome from our friendly coordinators Eva and Gina as well as our student volunteers.

Conversation Club takes place every Tuesday evening from 7.00pm-9.00pm during term time in the Multifaith Centre in the middle of campus. At the club you can practise English in a relaxed and informal setting while learning about international and British festivals, culture and much more. Each week a different topic is chosen with games and activities planned by the Club Coordinators and other volunteers.

There is no need to book and all sessions are completely free with refreshments provided.

Conversation Club Coordinators

Hello, I’m Eva and I’m currently in my last year of Art History. I’m from the UK and the Netherlands. I’ve taken part in many societies in UEA over my years here and have loved taking part in life on campus. I’ve volunteered with Conversation Club for the past 2 years and I love the community it creates and friendships that are built.

Because I come from an international background, and I’ve done a lot of work around teaching English in tutoring and working as a language buddy, I am very excited to be a Conversation Club coordinator. I look forward to being able to help any students feel comfortable and confident in their UEA experience.

Gina, my co-coordinator, and I have enjoyed and benefited so much from schemes like Conversation Club and societies at UEA and we’re very excited to share this experience with you. We look forward to meeting you!

Hello, everyone! My name is Gina and I am from South Korea! I am starting my final year in International Development and the Environment this September! I have been actively participating in the societies such as Korean society and Southeast Asian society since my first year in the UK. Two societies I have been involved in engage with lots of international students and are super friendly to all, which has helped me grow my interest in international students’ experience in UK university.

Being an international student myself, I understand how scary little things can seem at first so I hope I can be someone you can find when you need someone to talk to, which is one of the reasons I decided to join the conversation club. I really enjoy meeting new people, getting to know them, and potentially helping them if possible! Also, I am currently working as an international student ambassador for South Korea, so I am familiar with common problems international students share and I am able to help with these if you need!!! I hope that, through the conversation club this year, I will get to meet more people from across the world with different backgrounds and to be a part in your amazing uni life at UEA!!!

I am so excited to meet you all this year!!!

Both Eva and Gina have experience working with others on their language and look forward to sharing their experiences with you to help develop your conversational skills and confidence in using English.

In the past the Conversation Club has also organised additional social events, including a trip to London to see the Chinese New Year festivities and a BBQ on the lake. All weekly sessions and other events are available through the Facebook Group so join now to find out more.
