Staff Association Events for February (Sports, Books Jigsaws, Travel…)

Welcome to another monthly update on your SA Events and Groups

I want to start with some thank you messages…

… to Angela Hook for organising our annual panto trip to Aladdin!  Our poor ‘genie of the lamp’ took a slight detour off the stairs while making her grand entrance, but came bouncing back (hobbling a bit!) after the intermission so well done to her for proving that the show must go on!

More thanks are due to Beverley Youngman, Neil Wilson and Tracey Hobbs for setting up the Ceilidh, and to our ‘caller’ Chris Davis.  It went down a treat, with over 70 people attending and everyone had a good time so well done to them. If anyone has pics or comments for our Facebook site then please send them across to me.  We were also asked if we can put another event on so let us know if you’d be interested in that.

On to this month…

To begin, here’s a quick message from Tracey about our awesome Table Tennis club:

Benefits: It improves fitness, both physical and cognitive! And it is a complete break from the PC, so you return feeling much more alert.>

Oh, and it is fun too!

We provide the bats and balls. Cost: £1 per session (non-members £1.50)

Please contact Tracey more information or to be added to the list to receive a calendar invitation.

Best wishes,

We’ve had a suggestion from a member about a Jigsaw Swap.  They’re pretty expensive things to just do once then move on to the next so swapping might be a way of getting a little variety in.  What do you think?  If there’s enough interest then we could have a separate event but it was also suggested that we include it at a part of the Book Swap and that’s on next week so if you want to bring along jigsaws next Wednesday then bring them along and we’ll see what happens.

Our next Book Swap is on Wednesday 6th February, from 12-1 in Estates Meeting Room 1 so come along for hot drinks, cake and conversation… oh and to swap books! J

This February the Reading Group will be discussing 'The Postman Always Rings Twice'on Friday 22nd at 12.30 in Estates Meeting Room 4.

“The torrid story of Frank Chambers, the amoral drifter, Cora, the sullen and brooding wife, and Nick Papadakis, the amiable but inconvenient husband, has become a classic of its kind, and established Cain as a major novelist with a spare and vital prose style and a bleak vision of America.”

It's been turned into movies a couple of times (John Garfield/Lana Turner; Jack Nicholson/Jessica Lange) and I’m finally going to get around to reading the book!
