INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE FUNDED INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE FUNDED

Research students who receive funding from an external source (for example from UKRI or from industry) should ensure that they are aware of their funders’ requirements or expectations around open access. These may include open access requirements relating to e-theses as well as to other research outputs. For example, e-theses may need to be made openly available subject to a 12 month embargo.

There are no dedicated sources of funding for research students to cover open access fees that publishers charge, but students funded by the UK Research and Innovation can access the UKRI block grant in the same way as staff (though note if a student is the sole author of the paper, approval may be sought from the relevant Faculty Dean).
