Now open to applications from UK universities, the 2017 Leverhulme Doctoral Scholarships Call offers ten grants of £1.05 million each to fund full-time scholarships for doctoral study in a subject area of the applicant university’s choice.
Ten awards will fund 15 Leverhulme Doctoral Scholarships at each winning institution, with five scholarships to be offered in each year of the three-year grant. UK universities may submit one application only, and joint applications are not accepted from groups or consortia of universities.
The awards are offered in a subject area or thematic area that applicant universities have identified as a research priority. The chosen area should be sufficiently broad to sustain five doctoral students in each of the three years of the grant, but it should also have a clear and coherent overarching thematic identity.

Each scholarship is for a fixed sum of £70,000 for each student over 36 months of full-time doctoral study. This will cover maintenance (at research council levels), tuition fees, with any remaining funds to be used for the Leverhulme Scholar’s research and training expenses.
Preparing for a Submission: Information and Networking Event at UEA
An internal sift process will take place in April and May 2017 to select the application to be submitted by UEA. The Postgraduate Research Service will be holding a session on 17 March 2017 to provide information on this process, and to learn from academic colleagues involved in leading doctoral programmes at UEA. In line with the importance of transcending disciplinary boundaries for the Leverhulme Trust, this event will also provide an opportunity to discuss interdisciplinary ideas ahead of the UEA internal sift.
This event will take place on 17 March 2017 from 9:30 to 11:00 (Queen’s Building 01.09).
Registration is required; please contact Simon Dowsett (REN) if you wish to attend.
