Thesis Submission Extension as a consequence of COVID-19 Thesis Submission Extension as a consequence of COVID-19

We recognise that many aspects of postgraduate researchers' work are being affected by COVID-19. Anyone due to submit or resubmit their thesis during the period where PGR Service Reception is closed (however long this is) will have an automatic 14 calendar day extension. No concession paperwork is required for this 14 calendar day extension – this will be automatically applied. For example:

  • until 14th April 2020 for submissions or resubmissions due on 31st March 2020
  • until 14th May 2020 for submissions or resubmissions due on 30th April 2020
  • until 14th June 2020 for submissions or resubmissions due on 31st May 2020

This applies to initial thesis submission, submission of corrections and resubmissions, all of which must be submitted electronically - see our PGR COVID-19 Theses and Vivas Frequently Asked Questions page for more details.

We would encourage you to submit your thesis within this period if you are able.

A new streamlined process for a longer extension

If you think that you will need a longer extension than the standard 14 calendar days mentioned above, this streamlined process can be used to request an extension of either one or two months. If you are likely to need a longer extension than this, or are requesting an extension due to other circumstances, please use the standard 'Research Student Extension' form available on our Research Student Concessions webpage.

For this streamlined extension process there is an online form for you to complete. You must discuss things with your supervisor before submitting this form, and either paste text from an email from them into your answer to question 12, or get them to send a supporting email to pgr.concessions@uea.ac.uk. If you have medical certificates or other supporting evidence, then please email this to pgr.concessions@uea.ac.uk too.

Please keep answers brief. We will get in touch with you or your supervisor if we need more information to make a decision.

You will only be able to submit the form when you have completed all questions.

If you have a March 2020 submission or resubmission date:

This streamlined process can be used to request an extension until either 30th April or 31st May 2020.

Postgraduate Researchers due to submit or resubmit their thesis in March 2020 should use this form.

If you have an April or May 2020 submission or resubmission date:

This streamlined process can be used to request an extension of two months; until 30th June 2020 for submissions or resubmissions due in April 2020 or 31st July 2020 for submissions or resubmissions due in May 2020.

Postgraduate Researchers due to submit or resubmit their thesis in April or May 2020 should use this form.
