How do I apply for the UEA Bursary and Scholarships?
You are not required to submit a separate application to be considered for a UEA bursary. Assessment will be automatic once you have applied for your support via Student Finance England (SFE).
All undergraduate and PGCE students who apply to UEA will automatically be considered for all levels of scholarship.
Am I eligible for a Bursary or Scholarship?
If you are receiving a Higher Education Maintenance Grant (HEMG, which is different from the maintenance loan) or a Special Support Grant from SFE you will usually be eligible for a level of UEA bursary. To be eligible for one of our scholarships you need to meet our academic requirements which are detailed in our Terms and Conditions.
To view all the criteria for Bursaries and Scholarships please view our terms and conditions which can be found at the bottom of the page.
When will I find out if I'm entitled to receive any payments?
All cases are reviewed individually and we aim for you (if eligible) to receive a letter from the Student Loans Company between August and December. Students will receive separate letters confirming their awards, scholarship letters will be sent from the end of November 2017. Cases are reviewed after this date if for example there are delays at the SFE, so letters can be sent after these dates.
When will I receive my payments?
Payments are being made FROM the 6th December 2017.
I received a payment last year, will I get the same this year?
UEA bursaries are reviewed and renewed annually subject to the terms and conditions and based on whether you will receive the HEMG.
Scholarships are renewed annually and are subject to the terms and conditions.
I believe I am entitled to an Open Scholarship but I am not paid by the SLC, how will I be paid?
We screen all eligible students on their entry to UEA and you will be contacted by email by the Bursaries and Scholarships Office to request bank details. You will then be paid via BACS transfer from the University. These payments will also be made from the second week of December 2017.
Am I entitled to more than one payment at a time?
A student awarded a Pathway Scholarship may also be awarded an Open Scholarship or Vice Chancellor Prize Scholarship. With this exception no student can be awarded more than one scholarship.
What if I apply late to SFE for support will I still be entitled to any bursaries or scholarships?
Yes you will be screened for all payments except the Faculty and Vice Chancellor Prizes.
I have transferred from another University, will I be entitled to any payments?
Our scholarship awards are targeted at students considering Higher Education for the first time. For this reason students who have previously completed a degree programme at UEA, or other Higher Education Institution will not be considered for a scholarship award.
Bursary payments will be subject to standard terms and conditions.
What will happen to my payments if I change courses?
Continued payment will be subject to terms and conditions but students must still be enrolled for full-time study (payments will not be made to students who are intercalating or who change mode of study).
