Congratulations for successfully obtaining a place at the University of East Anglia (UEA).

Some of you may find university a dramatic change from your previous educational institutions. So, Norwich Business School (NBS) has developed and added a Student Performance Accelerator (SPA) workbook to the NBS Student Handbook to help guide you through your University education with the intention that you will be able to leave the University with the grades and qualifications you deserve, and above all, the skills and capabilities that you will need to progress to further study and/or the world of work.

You are likely to find that university is very different from any of your previous educational experiences because, in undertaking a degree, you are expected to actively research and learn rather than just being passively taught the information you require to complete the course. The most important aspect of higher education for you is ensuring that you go beyond lecture and seminar notes, and actively read a wide range of sources based around individual topics so that you know each topic in detail and acquire a deeper understanding.

The main purpose of this workbook, and the accompanying programme of lectures and workshops, is to prevent you from suffering an information overload in your first few weeks at university, and deliver the information you need at the time you need it (when it is relevant to the work you have been asked to do).

Provided that you attend all of your lectures and seminars, undertake independent reading, and follow the instructions provided in the Student Performance Accelerator and by your lecturers and seminar leaders, you should be confident that you will have acquired and developed important skills and capabilities, be able to look forward to obtaining a good honours degree, an exciting first job, and a satisfying career.

Please note, you are not required to read these books before you arrive. All the books will be available from the UEA branch of Waterstones as a value bundle.

NBS-4001Y – Introduction to Financial and Management Accounting

NBS-4003Y – Economics for Business (Please note: this module is for students who either have below a grade C at A level Economics or an equivalent qualification, or who have not studied Economics before)

NBS-4004Y – Introduction to Quantitative Methods for Business

NBS-4005Y – Introduction to Organisational Behaviour

NBS-4006Y – Principles of Marketing

NBS-4007Y – Introduction to Business

NBS-4009Y – Cases in Economics for Business (Please note: this module is for students with a grade C and above at A level Economics or an equivalent qualification.)

NBS has an ‘Inter Cohort Feed Forward’ scheme which aims to improve your learning experience and the quality of your assessed work. The scheme means that you get to learn from the assessment successes and failures of past students so that you can improve the quality of your assessed work.
You will benefit from the participation of past students in this scheme and in turn we would be grateful if you could benefit future students by signing up using the link in this section.
