Registration and Orientation

Monday 2 July 2018 from 09:45.

EU (European Union), EEA (European Economic Area), Overseas and British students born outside the UK arriving during week commencing 25 June are encouraged to visit the Student Visa Compliance Team in the Admissions Office in Lawrence Stenhouse Building (LSB) 1.120 to have visas and passports checked.

The registration and orientation event is held in the Zuckerman Institute for Connective Environmental Research (ZICER) Building room 2.03.

09:45-10:15 Visa and Passport checking for those EU (European Union), EEA (European Economic Area), Overseas and British students born outside the UK who have not already visited the Student Visa Compliance Team

  • Completion of registration and verification of academic documents for all new PGR students
  • Collection of Welcome Packs
  • Opportunity to meet representatives from a range of information and support services such as: International Students Team (ISAT) / Student Union / Outreach / Sustainable Transport / Security / UEA Sport / Careers Service
10:45-11:00 Welcome Address by Dr Nick Watmough (Academic Director for Research Degree Programmes) and Dr Vivien Easson (Head of Postgraduate Research Service)
11:00-11:45 Making the Most of the Student Support Services. Dr Jeremy Schildt, Head of Learning Enhancement Team: interactive session which will include the opportunity to put questions to a panel of current PGR students
11:45-11:55 Presentation from the Careers Service. Dr Rosemary Bass, Careers Adviser
11:55-12:05 Presentation from UEA Sport. Becky Wilkinson and Joe Skeet,  Student Sport Coordinators
12:05-12:15 Introduction to the UEA Student Union by Josh Melling, Student Engagement Coordinator (PG)
12:15-12:30 Presentation from ISAT (International Students Advisory Team) - for international students only - by Susan Peters Corbett, International Student Officer
12:30 Optional campus tour including visit to PGR Service (Elizabeth Fry Building 2.30), Sports Park, Library, Student Support Services, The Street led by current PGR students.
Afternoon Unless there are events arranged for your particular Faculty, you are encouraged to meet your supervisors (meetings to be arranged in advance) or familiarise yourself with the campus if supervisors unavailable.
