Changing the Culture | Never OK
The overarching programme of Changing the Culture, which includes Never OK and other campaigns and initiatives that aim to make positive changes, is committed to creating and nurturing an inclusive, supportive and safe environment for all.
“We all share a responsibility to create and maintain a safe, inclusive and welcoming culture on campus. Students and staff have the right to study, live and socialise in a safe community and as Vice Chancellor of UEA, I pledge to provide clear leadership and support for our Never Ok campaign”
Professor David Richardson
The University is committed to providing a safe environment to all students, staff and visitors. The University promises to thoroughly investigate all reports of inappropriate behaviour and conduct, and will implement recommendations and/or actions in line with the disciplinary policy, equality and diversity policies, and contracts of employment.
The University has zero tolerance towards:
- Sexual Assault and Harassment
- Hate Incidents - based on an individual's real or perceived race, religion, nationality, age, gender, sexual orientation or disability.
- Relationship / Domestic Abuse
We believe that every student has the right to have a good night out without experiencing sexual harassment. This is why the Union have trained all the bar and security staff to deal with incidents of sexual harassment.
These incidents can range from groping, grabbing, sexually aggressive behaviour, stalking, humiliating conduct, homophobia or transphobia. We understand that bar and security staff are often the first point of call for students when incidents happen.
All senior bar / venue and shop managers are trained in the Good Night Out training, equipping them to deliver the training throughout the year. We are hope to make this campaign sustainable, ensure it has a maximum long-term impact. For more information about Good Night Out, please contact: email@example.com.
Get home safely with our new Safe Taxi Scheme
Say goodbye to unpleasant situations and nights out! Sure, Norwich is one of the safest cities in the UK, but now you can feel even more secure when going out from and back to campus and around Norwich thanks to our Safe Taxi Scheme. If you ever find yourself in a situation where you feel unsafe or uncomfortable, you can call one of the scheme’s taxi company and get home safe and sound.
How does it work?
All you have to do is call the taxi company, give them your student number (not student ID card) and name, and they will send the invoice to the Students Union. The Union will then pay the taxi company directly.
These are the taxi companies currently taking part:
- ABC Taxi
- 5 Star Taxi
- Courtesy Taxi
Remember that your data will always be protected and will be used for the purpose of the initiative. When you register with the scheme it means you agree that the Union will process your personal data to cover any costs incurred and recover costs from yourself.
