Credo Reference
Online reference collection, featuring full text content from hundreds of reference books covering a broad range of subjects. There are over 3 million entries, 200,000 images and 100,000 sound clips.

Encyclopedia of American Studies
Part of Credo Reference, this encyclopedia provides hundreds of entries related to the history and cultures of the United States, including searchable articles and biographies and accompanying bibliographies.

American History in Video
Brings together key documentaries, newsreels and archival footage. Areas of focus include Trade and Exploration, American Revolutionary Era, Civil War, Imperialism and Colonialism, World War I, The Jazz Age, Post-World War II Era, Sixties, Women’s History and Black History.

Library of Congress
Vast online collections and exhibitions related to all aspects of the history and cultures of the United States. 

Literature Online
World's largest database of literature and criticism, containing 350,000 primary texts, biographies and bibliographies of key authors, and links to journal articles. A core resource for literature students.

New York Times Archive, 1851-2013
Search the full text of this important American newspaper for articles and images. For more recent content, see Nexis.

Database containing up-to-date full-text articles from thousands of news sources from around the world, including many national and local US newspapers and magazines.

Cite Them Right Online
A helpful guide to referencing, covering a wide range of different formats and referencing styles.

Key resource for literature students, providing biographies of major writers and entries for their works along with a lot of historical and cultural context.

American Film Institute Catalog
Premier, authoritative resource of American film information, covering American cinema comprehensively from 1893 to 1975, with full or short records for films from 1976.

Oxford Art Online (formerly Grove Art Online)
Online version of a leading multi-volume dictionary on the history of art, covering all aspects of the visual arts worldwide from prehistory to the present.

Witchcraft in Europe and America
Collection documenting witchcraft from the 16th to 20th century, including many manuscripts and rare items.

Entertainment Industry Magazine Archive
Digitised copies of core 19th and 20th century US and UK magazines covering film, music, broadcasting and theater, including many film fan magazines.

Hathi Trust
Like the Internet Archive (above), a vast collection of digitised books. Some are closed due to copyright restrictions, but many are available to read and download.
