The Microform collections are situated on Floor 02 of the Library in the Microform Room.
Machines for viewing the film/fiche are available in the Archives and Special Collections Reading Room on floor 02.
Staff assistance is available at the Archives and Special Collections Reception Desk: Monday-Friday 09.30-12.30 & 13.30-16.30.
Access to the machines and collections outside of the staffed hours is permissible but readers should be comfortable with using the equipment on their own. Local printing is unavailable when the area is unstaffed.
There is no facility for visitors to use the pc or scanning facility. Visitors may however print during 09.30-12.30 & 13.30-16.30 Monday - Friday.
Microform is the generic term for books, periodicals, newspapers, documents, etc. which are recorded in miniaturized form on microfilm (a strip of film), microfiche (a sheet of film, usually the size of a filing card), and occasionally on microcard (an opaque sheet of film, usually the size of a filing card).
All such items are described in UEA Library Search together with their reference number. Guides to the arrangement can be found on the walls and stack-ends near the microfilm cabinets.
The following viewing, printing, and scanning facilities are available:
- One microfilm/microfiche reader.
- One microfilm/microfiche reader with local printing.
- One microcard reader (available from 09.30-12.30 & 13.30-16.30 Monday-Friday).
- One microfilm/microfiche reader attached to a pc with Locator scanning software (UEA login required).
Images may be scanned and saved to the central filestore, a CD-RW or a USB memory stick. The option to use network printing is also available but the image must first be scanned.
Local printing costs 6p per page and is paid for with cash at Archives Reception. Local printing is only available from 09.30-12.30 & 13.30-16.30 Monday-Friday.
Booking is not essential but if you would like to reserve a microfilm reader/printer for a specific time please contact Archives staff
