Connect is a new feature from eStream which as the title suggests let's you 'connect' with more content. One of the features is a cloud based electronic programme guide (EPG) which works alongside the local Freeview encoder that has been used up until now. This guide will show you how to use the new EPG and how to get the most from it.
One advantage of the Connect EPG is that instead of allowing you to record Freeview content 7 days prior and 7 days in the future, Connect allows you to request content 30 days either side of the current date.
To access the Freeview recorder click on the Create button at the top of the eStream screen.
Then from the menu that appears click on the Record TV icon.
This will take you to the eStream Freeview EPG.
By default the EPG will select the local Freeview encoder which you can see from the screenshot above is highlighted in green. To select the Connect EPG simply click on the Connect EPG button below it.
Once inside the Connect EPG you will notice that it looks slightly different to its local counterpart.
But in the same way as the local EPG you can go back in and forward in time to view TV listings but this time the advantage being up to 30 days in the past. You can navigate by yesterday, today and tomorrow or search by date. You can also navigate the time of day.
When you have found the programme you would like to record click on its title and a panel (shown below) will slide in from the right of the screen.
When you are happy this this is what you want to record click on the Schedule Recording button and this will then be requested for you.
You will then be asked what you would like the recording to be called, add any meta data that you feel is relevant, whether it is to be public or private and which eStream category it should be added to.
You can then click Schedule Programme to request this one instance or click Create Series Link to capture future shows.
When you have been successful the programme you requested will turn yellow in the EPG. If you make a mistake you can cancel the request by simply clicking on the programme title again and from the menu click Cancel Schedule.
If you are having difficulty finding the programme you are looking for you can refine your search by clicking on the Keyword Links button at the top of the screen.
Keyword Links can be created to allow Planet eStream to automatically record and archive any programmes containing the specified keywords in their title and description as they are broadcast.
To create a new keyword link click on the Create New button, give it a name and set its criteria.
You can see from the screenshot above you can set criteria by keyword, channel and EPG category. You can also edit the meta data settings such as public, private and category.
Clicking on the Preview button will the show you the programmes that match this criteria.
If you would like Connect to process these criteria daily set the Active option to on. If you do not it will only run when you press the Process button giving you more granular control.
When you are finished click on the Save button.
You can return to the this screen in the future to edit or delete your search by visiting the Connect EPG as before and clicking on the Keyword Link button.
