San storage is provided for servers with hba connectivity via a brocade dual fabric to virtualised IBM storage, giving SAS, SATA and FC depending on performance needs.
This provides secure connectivity between the server and storage independent of the Ethernet network.
NFS exports from IBM Nseries can also be provided with the benefits of snapshots.
Raid 5 and 6 resilience with hot spare coverage is provided depending on the performance/cost requirements.
- Windows server 2003
- Windows server 2008 and R2
- RHEL 5.x
- SUSE Linux Enterprise
|Storage Type||Included Features||Yearly Cost/TB||5 Yearly Cost/TB|
|Nseries||Raid, snapshots, NFS, CIFS||£1,260|
The SAN infrastructure is based on a Brocade resilient fabric, using IBM enterprise storage which is virtualised by IBM SVC giving increased performance via caching and more flexibility for storage allocation.
Files are served by IBM Nseries gateways giving CIFS and NFS access to files.
GPFS storage is also provided for Escience HPC use.
Production servers providing services including the portal and email use SAN backend storage via HBA connections to the fabric.
Data is backed up using IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) which writes to IBM 3584 robotic tape libraries. Data is vaulted between libraries in physically separate data centres to provide off site disaster recovery.
All hardware is hosted in two data centres with UPS power protection and air conditioning.
All services are monitored by our operations team, who routinely replace failed components with no service disruption due to in built resilience.
