Request information on environmental regulations Request information on environmental regulations

The Environmental Information Regulations entitles individuals to request information that is held by the University.  The University is committed to promoting public understanding of its nature and activities via the systematic publication of all relevant information, and will make every effort to provide, where practical and permissible, additional information to members of the public in cases where routinely published information does not provide them with the information they require.

How to make a request for information – Environmental information

The University already makes public in digital format large quantities of environmental information that it holds by way of our website, The pages for the Estates Division, School of Environmental Sciences, School of Biological Sciences, the UEA Digital Repository and our Library Catalogue describe and hold much of the environmental information that we possess. Before submitting any request you are advised to check our website to determine whether the information you require is already available.

If you wish to make an enquiry about environmental information held at the University and which does not seem to be already available, you should make the request in one of the following ways:

  • Write directly to the Information Policy and Compliance Manager, stating your name, address and details of the information you require
  • Complete the Requesting Information form and return it to the Information Policy and Compliance Manager
  • Complete the Online Requesting Information form, which will be automatically forwarded to the Information Policy and Compliance Manager

It is both to your advantage and ours if you submit your request in written format as this will ensure that we understand what you want and have all the necessary information in order to provide it to you.  Indeed, if you speak to a UEA staff member, they may well ask you to put your request in writing, or will ask if they can write down your request themselves.  You do not have to agree to this but it is very much to your advantage to do so.

When we receive your request we shall instigate a search for the requested information. If we cannot determine what information you require, we shall contact you as soon as possible to clarify your request. Please note that the 20 working day 'clock' for responding to a request is suspended when we request clarification and only resumes once we have received a response.

If we already publish the information you have requested, we shall send you details of how to find the information.

In all other cases, the information you need will be located and provided to you in your preferred format. Please note, however, that some information may be exempt from disclosure: should this be the case, we will provide what information we can and also provide reasons why the exempted information has not been released to you. Please also note that we may need to charge a fee to cover the costs of our search and any copying; until a fee is received, the requested information will not be released to you.

If you need any advice on your request, or you are unhappy with our response, please email or write to the Information Policy and Compliance Manager. Address details can be found on the contacts page.
