Is it compulsory to wear Academic Dress?
If you have opted to attend the ceremony you are required to wear academic dress. Academic dress of another qualification, or of another colour/style to the University's official dress code, or of another university may not be worn.
Where can I hire my gown?
Gowns may be hired or purchased from the University's robemaker, Ede & Ravenscroft
What is the gown hire deadline?
Gowns must be ordered at least 3 weeks prior to your ceremony. Ede & Ravenscroft will not be able to guarantee that a gown will be available if you have not placed an order prior to the deadline.
What should I wear with my gown?
Graduation is a formal event and graduands are asked to dress smartly. 'Smart dress' is defined without reference to considerations of gender identity or expression. You may find it helpful to wear something with a button on the front to help prevent the hood from slipping off your shoulders. Jeans, t-shirts and other similar casual items are not considered appropriate for Graduation ceremonies.
What will my Academic Dress look like?
Academic dress consists of a blue gown, a hood and appropriate headwear. The hood will be bound on the outside with grosgrain the colour of which is determined by the type of award due to be conferred. For more information, please navigate to the Academic Dress link below.
