Constant temperature, cold rooms and freezer rooms exist within SCI. These are often small, sealable rooms and a risk assessment must be carried out before any work is conducted in them. These confined spaces often have potentially hazardous environments and lone working must be avoided, or a strict buddy system should be used whenever planning the use of one, even for a brief visit.
Good laboratory practice must be followed in cold/constant temperature rooms and all samples must be clearly labeled.
For building 5, ENV, all enquiries regarding access and storage in the cold, constant temperature and freezer rooms should be directed to Paul Disdle. Forms requesting storage space in the cold rooms or freezer rooms can be downloaded. Anyone intending to use the cold, constant temperature and freezer rooms should familiarise themselves with this safe system of work.
