Use Use

Staff without experience in using gas cylinders should request training from your local support technicians. The following acts may only be undertaken by trained members of staff:

  • The attachment of fittings.
  • Any piping that’s intended to carry the flow of gas.
  • The exchange of any regulator.

All users of compressed gasses must have training with gas documented in the individual’s training and competency log.

Many gases carry hazardous properties. The use of gas cylinders must be fully risk assessed by researchers for all specified processes under CoSHH.

Only trained persons using designated equipment may move cylinders, which even includes simple movements such as about a room. Please contact a member of your local support staff if you wish to have a cylinder moved.

The BCRE has a cylinder transportation risk assessment for trained individuals only, which can be found here.
