Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (CoSHH) Regulations 2001

All work with any substances that are hazardous to health must be controlled according to the law.

All MED laboratory researchers must be aware of the CoSHH regulations applicable in the facilities in which they operate. A basic introduction to CoSHH and some guidance in how to meet the legal requirements of CoSHH regulations can be found here.

In MED school laboratory areas there are processes in place which must be followed in order to ensure these regulations are met. For all MED school researchers,CoSHH forms must be completed for all procedures where hazardous substances are used. A CoSHH form template is provided for completion and must be authorised by the responsible PI and reviewed annually.

University Safety Services run a CoSHH training seminar suitable for all members of research groups who will be required to regularly complete CoSHH forms. Contact USS for course programme and dates.

NB. some core completed CoSHH forms are held by MED technical teams to help when you are preparing CoSHH for common procedures – please contact your local MED tech support for more info.
