Lecture Theatre Refurbishment Update
The current refurbishment of the Main Lecture Theatre Block is nearing completion with the building and all its facilities due to re-open shortly.
The programme was very tight but thanks mainly to the efforts of MJS Contracts Ltd who have carried out the refurbishment the building will open as planned on 18 September 2017.
Extensive improvements include complete replacement of the ventilation system, removal of redundant projection booths to increase seating capacity as well as new Lecture Theatre seating.
Additional improvements include the remodelling of foyer and circulation spaces with the introduction of new windows to increasing natural light alongside new lighting, upgraded AV screens and replacement finishes.
The new seating for Lecture Theatre 1 arrives and is temporarily stored in the Level 0 foyer. In this image you can see the new timber cladding across the ceiling and walls as well as new viewing windows which offer a view in Lecture Theatre 1 at the rear of the seating alcove.
Lecture Theatre 1 ready for the new seating to be installed, the old projection screen has been removed and a new wall constructed to receive a new screen. Also shown in this image are the new ventilation ducts to the ceiling together with new general lighting and stage lighting.
Installation of one of the new windows to Level 0 foyer lets in natural light. This window gives a view of the “Harbour” area towards the Broad.
The Entrance Foyers for the Lecture Theatres have been remodelled with new layouts, new ceilings and lighting. The refurbishment also includes new decorations and finishes. This image shows works to the new ceiling are nearly complete with just the tiles to lay into the new support grid.
The major refurbishment of the Lecture Theatre Building began on 22 May. The contractor compound is situated on the grassed area between the Library and the Lecture Theatre Building for the duration of works.
The building will be back in service from Monday 18 September 2017 as originally planned.
There is likely to be some intermittent localised noise during the project although every effort will be made to keep this to a minimum.
Please note there are alternative prayer facilities for Muslim students whilst these works are being carried out.
