Chancellors Drive roadworks

Starting Monday 28 October a programme of essential infrastructure works will begin on Chancellors Drive. This will involve significant trenching works along Chancellors Drive which will last until April 2020.

This work is being carried out by contractor RG Carter and Breheny on behalf of the UEA Estates and Facilities Division. Contractor compounds will be located behind the Security Lodge and BIOMASS yard for the duration of works.

These works have been undertaken in a phased approach to enable Chancellors Drive to remain open for the duration of works. Due to the trenching works we anticipate noise disruption throughout.

Traffic management will be in place throughout the different phases of the programme as well as a series of diversions to pedestrian footpaths and cycle ways, including the closure of Cow Drive from Monday 2 December.

From 6 January, a new phasing plan has been issued, superseding the previous. Please note, the below dates and programme are subject to change.

(A direct link to the essential infrastructure map can be found here)

Phase 1

This phase comprises trenching works to the Boiler House roof of the Estates building and to the pathway behind the Security Lodge. This phase will also involve trenching on the University Drive pathway behind the Security Lodge opposite the Sportspark.

There will be further trenching works to the pedestrian footpath from the Chancellors Drive/Security Lodge zebra crossing towards the Registry building. Due to the need to ‘break out’ the existing sub base of the path we expect some noise disruption.

A two-way traffic light system will be in place on Chancellors Drive for this phase. Pedestrians will be routed via the pathway between Cow Drive and the Registry at the edge of the Main Car Park. There will be no access to the cycle parking behind the Security Lodge.

National Express bus services will continue to pick up on Chancellor's Drive and First Bus services will also continue to service both University Drive and Chancellors Drive.

Phase 2

This phase comprises further trenching works to the area behind the Security Lodge. This involves maintenance to essential services and the installation of a new water meter. There will be no access to the cycle parking behind the Security Lodge.

Pedestrians will be routed via the pathway between Cow Drive and the Registry at the edge of the Main Car Park. There will be no access to the cycle parking behind the Security Lodge.

Once this phase is complete, the University Drive pathways behind the Security Lodge is anticipated to re-open. It is anticipated that this will allow Cow Drive to re-open.

National Express bus services will continue to pick up on Chancellor's Drive and First Bus services will also continue to service both University Drive and Chancellors Drive.

Phase 3

This phase involves trenching works to the footpath between Cow Drive and the Main Bus Stop between the edge of the Main Car Park and part of University Drive. This is to create the required connections between essential services.

As part of this phase there will be a two-way traffic light system on University Drive for the duration of one week.

National Express bus services will continue to pick up on Chancellor's Drive and First Bus services will also continue to service both University Drive and Chancellors Drive.

Phase 4

This phase will involve minor trenching around the Registry building to allow installation of data ducting and network services.

Trenching is likely to impact occupants of the Registry building through noise disruption.

Access across Founders Green will remain at all times however there may be some pedestrian diversions and weekend working.

Phase 5

This phase is no longer within the scope of works. Minor excavations at the rear of the Main Car Park comprise phase 5. This may result in some parking bays being unavailable for duration of the phase but disruption will be minimal.

Phase 6

Further trenching will take place from the corner Estates Loading Bay and under the Chemistry Arch towards the ITCS building. This trenching will carry new data and network connections.

There will be a two-way traffic light system under the Chemistry Arch from Wednesday 19 February and remain for the duration of this phase.

National Express bus services will continue to pick up on Chancellor's Drive and First Bus services will also continue to service both University Drive and Chancellors Drive.
