Part 3: Design philosophies and criteria for heating, cooling, ventilation and light

RIBA Stages 1 – 2

Contents

This Part sets out the UEA’s comfort criteria for heating, cooling ventilation and lighting schemes (including natural light) for different types of space (e.g. teaching and learning spaces, offices, residential spaces, etc). Because the use of natural light impacts on the heating and cooling of buildings these elements (HVCL) are brought together in Part 3 to inform the concept design of buildings.

Part 3 also sets out requirements for low energy design and discusses how recent building projects have met the requirement.

Design requirements for luminaires and lighting control systems are discussed in Part 6: Electrical systems
