The Aurora programme was launched in November 2013 by the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education (LFHE). This women-only programme is available to both academics and professional support staff, up to senior lecturer level or professional equivalent, who feel they would benefit from a career development programme which addresses some of the aspects of professional success which can be particularly challenging for women.
Who is this course for?
This course is for any woman in an academic or professional role, up to senior lecturer level or professional equivalent, who wants to maximise their potential. The course has been introduced to help address the under-representation of women in senior posts in Higher Education.
What does the course offer?
The core areas explored by the course are:
- Understanding organisations and the sector
- Identifying and overcoming barriers and obstacles
- Growing confidence and professional identity
- Building networks, coalitions and support processes
- Developing useful behaviours, skills and knowledge for leadership.
The course provides four, monthly development days (this may involve some travelling within the UK), action learning and self-directed learning to build upon key themes and personal professional needs. An in-house mentor is also identified to support each participants’ development.
