CSED PROGRAMME 2017-18 CSED PROGRAMME 2017-18

This year, there are some important changes to the way IT training is delivered by CSED:

  • There is no longer a CSED IT Training room.  CSED IT training courses will take place in other rooms (please see individual course details).
  • Please note that morning courses will start earlier, at 9.00am rather than 9.30am unless otherwise advised
  • We are currently reviewing our IT Training provision. This means that there are some changes to existing courses, as well as new courses on offer. Online IT learning resources are also in development.

Office 365 update

A programme of development (both face to face and on-line) has been planned for Office 365 training. Office 365 offers many features and represents a significant change in the way UEA staff will work in future. Material is currently being trialled and our development plan will encompass these numerous features.  However, we are adjusting our plans and working with ITCS to prioritise training in Office 365 file sharing over the coming months to meet anticipated demand, resulting from recent changes in UEA policy.  Additional sessions have been scheduled, and we are offering a mix of short briefings and longer practical lab based training.  Unfortunately, this means that other courses have had to be postponed until next year.  We apologise for the inconvenience.

In nominating staff to attend Office 365 file sharing briefings and training sessions, we recommend that managers give priority to staff who are highly confident in the use of IT and agile at picking up new ways of working quickly.  These individuals can lead on good practice and support their colleagues in learning how to get the best out of file sharing with Office 365.

Who can attend: These are longer practical IT training sessions.  In nominating staff to attend we recommend that managers give priority to people who are confident in the use of IT and agile at picking up new ways of working quickly.  These individuals can lead on good practice and support their colleagues in learning how to get the best out of file sharing with Office 365 using the materials that will be published on Blackboard. The sessions include the content from the Briefing Sessions.

Sharing files that are stored in OneDrive and other places in Office 365 offers significant improvements in productivity and security. In this course you will learn:

  • How sharing files can mitigate the security issues that can arise when a document is attached to an email. You will learn how to ensure that a file is shared with the right people and how to subsequently lock people out of a file, should the need arise.
  • How to share a master document which the right people can either just view, or be allowed to edit. This reduces the problems that occur when different versions of a document are circulated as attachments.
  • How a number of people can simultaneously work on the same document as a collaborative process, either in the same office, or on opposite sides of the globe.
