Designing and supporting e-learning have been the focus of my career in Higher Education. My disciplinary background is in computer-mediated communication. Following a first career in software training and communication consultancy, I became Senior Lecturer in Communication Studies at Sheffield Hallam (1996-2012), where I was course leader for an online Master's in professional communication. An interest in academic development led me to take on the role of Academic Lead for Technology-enhanced Learning at Writtle College (2012-2014). I joined CSED in September 2014 as Lecturer in Academic Practice, with a special interest in learning technologies.

My research focuses on e-learning, pedagogical design and mature learners. For my MEd(Res) I conducted a year-long virtual ethnographic study of a VLE module supporting a research design module. My current PhD research examines mature learners' responses to social media in the context of an online Master's course in professional communication.
