There is the opportunity for a Support Staff member to serve on UEA Council. The successful person serves for a three year term.

What does the role involve?

As a Support Staff member you would attend each meeting and provide your own views together with any views which have been given to you by other Support Staff.

Time commitment?

Council meets six times a year usually taking place on a Monday morning (although some meetings are held in the afternoon if required). One of these meetings will include a Council Strategy Conference which is an all day event and normally includes dinner in the evening. You would be expected to attend the meetings where possible having been elected by your peers. These dates can be found looking in the UEA Almanac.

The 2018/19 dates of Council will be:

Monday 8 October 2018 – 9.30am

Tuesday 27 November 2018 (COU/CSC) – 9.30am onwards (all day event)

Monday 28 January 2019 – 9.30am

Monday 11 March 2019 – 9.30am

Monday 13 May 2019 – 9.30am

Monday 24 June 2019 – 10.30am


If there are any vacancies or impending vacancies eligible Support Staff (those who work 35% fte or more) are notified during April in the year prior to the vacancy arising and are sent the Notice and Nomination form either by email or post.

Nominations are then sought and should be returned to the Registrar and Secretary’s Office by the stated deadline. A list of those eligible to nominate will be on Registry Reception. If only one nomination is received, then that person will be reported to the June Council meeting as elected.

If there is more than one nomination, each will be asked to provide biographical details for the ballot papers. These will be counted and nominees then informed of the result. This will then be published by official UEA means and reported to the June Council meeting as elected.
