Library’s contactless service a success
Since launching their new contactless ‘click and collect’ service over a month ago (Monday 8 June), UEA Library has processed 300 requests and helped to issue over 880 books to ensure you have access to the books and resources you need.
Previously, UEA Library had expanded their digital library by increasing the collection of electronic resources and digital alternatives to physical texts. Although this service met many students’ needs during that time, it was recognised that, for some, access to the physical books remained a high priority, especially where online versions are unavailable.
This is where the new contactless ‘click and collect’ service came in handy to make physical books available for essential work, research or study. This service continues to be offered on a ‘best endeavours’ basis as a temporary COVID-19 contingency, and is initially available to UEA students and staff, INTO students and staff, and students and staff at partner colleges only.
Here’s how you can request the ‘click and collect’ service:
- Before requesting any items, head over to the library catalogue to check that your items are currently in the building and available to borrow. You can then fill in the collection request form on the Library homepage.
- Requested items will be picked from the shelves by the team and issued to your account remotely, meaning you won’t need to use the self-service machines in the Library when you come to collect them. This will help ensure your visit to the Library Foyer is as free of ‘touch points’ as possible.
- The team will aim to have items available for collection within two working days of your request being made, subject to demand being manageable.
- On the day of collection, head to the Library Foyer with your campus card. Please be aware the Reception will remained unstaffed so there will be no exceptions to this rule, and a mobile phone will be handy in case you need to get in contact with the Library team while you’re collecting your items on 01603 592993.
Please be aware that items can only be collected from the Library Foyer between 1:30pm-4:30pm on Monday to Friday. The Library building itself remains closed in line with government guidance.
In exceptional circumstances alternatives to the ‘click and collect service’ can be explored. Please email the library team at email@example.com if you think this may apply to you.
Are you a final year who’s just finished your studies? You can now post your books back to the UEA library, completely free of charge. A brand new free postal service has been introduced by Library services, allowing you to return any books or resources to a DHL Service point or arrange a DHL courier to come and collect your parcel. To find out more about this service and register your interest, please visit the online form.
Unfortunately, this service isn’t available outside of the United Kingdom. If you are outside of the UK and have books you need to return, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
