Norwich Science Festival to return in 2021

Organisers of the award-winning Norwich Science Festival have confirmed that the annual celebration of science will not be going ahead in October this year, but that it will return bigger and better in 2021.

Natalie Bailey, Norwich Science Festival Producer, said: “It’s with a heavy heart that we’ve taken the decision to cancel Norwich Science Festival 2020. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which has resulted in staff furloughing and a reduction in finances and funding, it unfortunately isn’t possible to bring you our award-winning celebration of science this year.

“Rest assured we’ll be back with a bang in 2021, with another interactive, engaging and entertaining Festival for all ages and all levels of knowledge, organised by The Forum and partners across the city.”

Although the Festival as such is not possible, organisers have announced a small series of online events to maintain momentum and enthusiasm for science in the city.

Rachel Watkins, UEA Events officer, said: “While we’re sad that the Norwich Science Festival won’t be going ahead this year, we’re pleased that UEA will be an important contributor to the #NorwichSciFestAtHome online programme. We're really excited by this arrangement and the opportunity it presents to engage a wider audience with research from UEA and the Norwich Research Park.

“We’ve already received lots of fantastic proposals from UEA researchers for activities that we can take online, so we’re not planning to open up to further applications at this point in time. The good news is that we already have enough excellent proposals to fill the online programme twice over!”
