covid-19 updates - 24.03.2020
We hope that you’re all keeping well and staying safe in these unprecedented times.
The Government issued new guidance last night (23.03.2020) on covid-19 to help slow the spread of the virus. As such, we wanted to give you another update on measures at the University which have been brought in over the last week, as well as more immediate updates in light of the Government’s most recent announcement:
Security - As always, the UEA Security team are working hard to keep our campus and UEA community safe. To help with this, they’ve asked that all UEA staff and students are aware of the following:
- All buildings on campus are now swipe-card access only
- Display your campus card to help UEA Security ensure identification from a security standpoint
- Please ensure all lone working protocols as dictated by departments and schools are adhered to
- Please still adhere to all fire alarm processes
- Please be aware of tailgating (people following closely behind you) when entering buildings
- As always, please advise UEA Security of any suspicious activity on 01603 592352 – for emergencies, call 01603 592222.
IT Service Desk - Due to the current Coronavirus measures, the IT Service Desk is now operating a voicemail only phone support service. They will still be reviewing your voicemails and responding from 9am – 4pm Monday to Friday to assist you with your queries as quickly as possible.
Campus Kitchen - A message from Campus Kitchen: “To safeguard our customers and staff we have made the difficult decision to close all Campus Kitchen outlets until further notice. Thank you to everyone who has continued to support us and we look forward to seeing you when we re-open.” There are lists of alternative outlets and ideas for healthy lunch ideas on their website.
University Postal Service – Following the Government announcement yesterday, the University Postal Service have taken the decision to temporarily shut the post room collection point for student mail and parcel collections. During this period they ask that you only order essential goods – Food Supplies, Medicine and Hygienic Goods. It will be possible to arrange delivery of these items along with any travel documents to your student residence on campus by replying to your email notification from us that we have received your parcel. Student Services – Student Services remain open and will continue to provide a range of services to students – please note that the current situation with covid-19 means that their physical offices have closed and staff will be working from home. All appointments are therefore being held via telephone - if you have a pre-existing appointment you will be notified of further details via your UEA email account. Students can still request support as usual through the online referral form or by emailing email@example.com. All UEA students also have 24/7 access to Health Assured, including a telephone helpline, online wellbeing portal and app – see the Portal for more details of how to access this service.
