Welcome to the start of another academic year - one of my favourite times in the calendar, when our campus is once again alive with students. Thank you to everyone for making all our new students feel so welcome and ensuring that their introduction to UEA is a great experience for them.

I hope you all enjoyed the Bank Holiday weekend, a welcome short break in a busy semester. I’m very happy to begin this message with the news that we’ve maintained our eighteenth position in the Guardian league table ranking - and that we achieved number one position for added value.
Thanks to everyone who is working so hard to help our students achieve their learning goals. We all hope an agreement to settle the industrial action can be reached soon. I support the new proposal for a joint expert panel on pensions between UUK and the UCU.
